This blog will merge ideas from management, nursing, medicine and psychology (and many others) to offer a different view of patient safety. There will be a heavy concentration of information on human factors theory, high reliability theory, resiliency and normal accident theory. The author, who has worked as an RN in Pediatrics since 1985, has a Masters in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and obtained a graduate certificate in Error Science, Full Disclosure and Patient Safety Leadership at the University of Illinois @ Chicago. What is Industrial-Organizational Psychology?

“Industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology is the scientific study of the workplace. Rigor and methods of psychology are applied to issues of critical relevance to business, including talent management, coaching, assessment, selection, training, organizational development, performance, and work-life balance (SIOP, 2009).”
